I have bought many math workbooks over the years, and this one has some definite benefits and drawbacks. It was purchased for two students, one entering 8th grade and one entering 9th grade. Both were going into the same advanced geometry class in HS, so this was intended to prepare them for the class with an introduction to geometry.Pros: has great step-by-step solutions for the problems covers a lot of topics under the geometry umbrella uses proofs in a step-by-step way that helps proofs "make sense"Cons: There is not much repetition - it is more like taking the example problems from each section of a textbook and putting them all in a row, so it is not ideal for the repetition a student would need to really master a new concept; I had to print off worksheets from the internet to provide enough practice on some concepts Solutions and answers are provided immediately after the problem, so with kids who are less likely to really try to figure out what they did wrong, they often said, "Oh, I see..." and went on instead of figuring out what they didn't understandOverall, I thought this was a very informative book, and a great review for mom, who hasn't done much with Geometry since graduating from HS, but it was not great for students who need a lot of practice on any given concept to really understand it. Having said that, they are now both 4 months into the geometry class at school, and have gone back to notes we took as we worked through the workbook to clarify topics they haven't understood at school, but they remember touching on over the summer. So, I guess it did some good. :)

I'm a private tutor and am using this with high school geometry students who need a few more problems in a specific area. It is much easier than looking them up on the internet, and sometimes I just have my phone with me and not good reception... so I like the book. The casual format is (I think) designed to make it more approachable (it is designed so it looks like someone hand-wrote the answers). I find it easy to read, but I'm not as keen on the angled comments... not using it between me and a student where I have to angle the book so we both can read it. For a single user (student working alone) it would not be a problem.

This book would be most useful for an average student who wanted to improve his/her skills and was willing to devote a lot of effort to the task. Most of the problems are simple, and 25% of them are not even on geometry (most of these non-geometry problems are on some, but not all, of the pre-requisite algebra). The few advanced problems are good, but their explanations are too pedestrian. One positive feature is the 50 pages devoted to geometric constructions; this is more than I have ever found in a geometry textbook, even in the old days when constructions were a major topic in high school geometry. Sadly, students nowdays have little motivation to deal with constructions because they cannot easily be converted to exam questions.

I've had this book a little over a month now. It has taught me a lot as far as the concept of Geometry. It has proofs that makes you understand how geometry is to be looked at, and how to approach a geometry problem if you came across one. But, after reading about a little less than half the book, I must say that this book is not meant to be studied from as a primary source of "teaching your self geometry". It is really a good reference book. Yes it does go indepth on the teachings the fundamentals of solving a geometry figure. And I must say that it does it thoroughly, even at nausea. But, if you're trying to get some practice, which what really counts when taking tests like the GMAT, you need a Book of Problems to solve on your own recognisent to really get you acclimated to all these concepts you may need to be ready for what ever test you're taking.Good book, but it is really best used as a secondary tool if you don't understand how to do a certain problem.

It's an alright book. I am studying for gmat and a lot of the information is irrelevant. Also it's difficult to learn from this book series because the answers are all so close to the problems. It's difficult to avoid seeing the next step.

Not a practice workbook. It is more like a study book with a few examples and lots of wordy explanations.

Very basic problems for learning conceptsIf you want to be able to excel at proofs or need practice for more challenging problems this is not the book for you.

This book has boosted my geometry skills. I recommend it to anybody struggling with this subject, and it will take them to a deeper level of understanding. I purchased the complete series (including Algebra, Trig, Statistics and Calculus) and love it!I am now even more thankful than ever: I just passed the NES teacher certification math test, and I know these five books played a big part in my success because I did not take any math classes after I graduated from high school a zillion years ago.
