I've never had much exposure to Mr. Woods, but I pre-ordered this book on the strength of Ron Paul's Foreword and I wasn't disappointed. Over the course of over 50 chapters, Mr. Woods does an excellent job of explaining the actual libertarian positions on the subjects of War, Capitalism, Freedom, the Federal Reserve and more. In addition, he addresses the faux arguments against libertarian positions offered by the media. If you want to examine rational political thought outside the pre-determined "choices," that are offered by mainstream society, this is an excellent place to start. The writing is engaging and the thought process is enlightening.

Thomas Woods' book titled REAL DISSENT is a historically accurate antidote to the "conservatives" and the cowardly war party. Woods value is that he writes very well, and he knows actual history and bona fide sources. While some readers may place Woods as a "neocon," he is certainly is not. While this reviewer does not agree with all of Woods' views, Woods presentations are logical, and he is articulate.Woods wasted no time in attacking the neocons and the "liberals" strait jacket avenues of debate. The apprehensively conventional view that political debate should be confined to Romney, Clinton, and Obama agendas is shattered by Woods book. An amusing view of the neocons is that they whine about socialism and communism. Yet, these same neocons want a Soviet Leninist-Stalinist police state to undermine their badly distorted views of history. Woods cites "chapter and verse" the contradictory neocon views and confusion. Police state spying and attempts to stifle truth are exposed in Woods' book, and the "Establishment" is uncomfortable with Woods to say the least. Both Democrats and Republicans have expanded the war state. Without knowing who the "enemy" is at any given moment, all they can do is talk about bombing people regardless of innocent unarmed civilians including women and children. Between 1988-1991, US forces destroyed Iraq's water purification system which cost the lives of approximately five hundred thousand children because US authorities did not like Saddam Hussein. Then Secretary of State Madeleine Albright actually justified such tragedy.Woods could have made this more of an issue. Readers should know that between 1980-1988, Russian, West German, and US authorities armed Hussein and help him fight the Iranians in a long deadly war which no one won. The lies that Hussein had weapons of mass destruction were later undermined. In 1988, US forces helped the US Navy intervened on Hussein's behalf against the Iraqis. Yet three short years later, Hussein became the "bad guy." The Orwellian overtones are too obvious to ignore.Later in 2001, US forces ousted Hussein, and, as Woods noted, one neocon boasted that US forces should destroy anyone just to do it without any moral imperative. In other words, diplomacy should be based on evil impulse rather than rational policy. When US policy makers were warned about the different political factions in Western Asia, the ignorant government officials dismissed such warning and marginalized anyone who told the truth.Older conservatives such as Russel Kirk who were "the darlings of conservatism," are now condemned by the neocons. Woods noted that Kirk and older conservatives warned that war destroyed civilized behavior which is now epidemic both overseas and in the US. Woods cited "The Founding Fathers" who were against standing armies, imperialism, and militarism. Now the neocons hate such great men because the views of "The Founding Fathers" undermine "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace." In fact, some of the neocons are such "cry babies" that anyone who undermines their nonsense is removed from Face Book and other Internet connections. One example of the war party's deceit is John Yoo who tried to cite Alexander Hamilton's views in THE FEDERALIST PAPERS. Supposedly Hamilton said the US presidents had the same power as King George III. Yoo blundered in that he DID NOT finish the citation whereby Hamilton argued that presidents' war making powers were limited by the US Constitution and a declaration of war by Congress. Yoo had to retreat. The undersigned disagreed with Woods' economic views. Woods economic views were logical and expressed very well. However, his views would work in "a perfect world." The political greed and corruption is so entrenched that Woods' views would not work. On the other hand, Woods's economic arguments are well worth reading to understand what is wrong. In spite of minor disagreements, Woods' book titled REAL DISSENT is an "eye opener. This writer recommends any of Woods books which anyone of "residual common sense" can enjoy reading and comprehend. Hopefully Woods will write more thoughtful books and monographs if only for the record.James E. EgolfAugust 23, 2015

As a fan of Tom Woods and his podcast, this is what I would expect from him in a book that gives some brief glances into libertarian/classic liberalism stance with a mixture of Austrian economics for funsies thrown in.If you've listened to Wood's podcast there won't be anything really new or groundbreaking depending on how far back you've listened. However, having the material written down and able to be referenced alone makes this worth it. The book follows in the footsteps of Ron Paul's "Liberty Defined" with more of a focus on hitting the high points that libertarians tend to hear about the most. Things like how awesome the federal reserve is and how it's a great savior. How the New Deal was the best thing and how government intervention both foreign and domestic is a savior to us all.The thing I enjoy about Woods is that while he is well read and studied and can talk on a myriad of subjects, his desire to encourage and inform is front and center. And he just doesn't preach to the main choir but encourages introspection from the left and the right. Like Woods, this book is still entertaining while being very informative even on such things as state nullification intended by the ratification conventions in the early days of America. One of my biggest joys with Wood, other than those already listed, is his desire to maintain a consistent worldview foundation without having to rely on name calling, appeal to only emotions, or being unwilling to admit to being wrong and having to shift slightly to where the evidence points.I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking into libertarianism or really any subject that Tom Woods speaks on. Mr. Woods is a pleasure to read and to listen to and to study from. Final Grade - A-

Review

“Sarah Kane, a provocative playwright whose bleak view of the limitations of human relationships and graphic dramatizations of violence and sex earned her a reputation as an enfant terrible of the British theater...Blasted immediately established her as an important voice in modern playwriting.” ―The New York Times“Kane wrote simply and starkly about the world she saw around her…a mature and vividly theatrical response to the pain of living.” ―Guardian“Shocking and revelatory.” ―New York Magazine (Blasted review)“As compact and beautiful as a diamond in structure--and yet the mood it inspires is as black as coal.” ―Time Out (4.48 Psychosis review)“A hugely unnerving theatrical experience, shot through with the language of the Bible and a genuinesly poetic richness.” ―Time Out (Crave review)“The writing has an almost unparalleled distiled intensity which is often unbearable to watch...To some it will be repellent.Others will recognize it as absolute proof of the power of live theatre.” ―Independent (Cleansed review)“Pure theatre. Or rather, impure theatre: dirty, alarming, dangerous.” ―Observer (Phaedra's Love review)

A great way to thrust yourself into the world of 'In-Yer-Face-Theatre'. Whenever I read one of her plays, I find myself almost forced to read it to the very end as if pausing the pain, even for a day, could cause me even more trauma. Once finished, I usually cry or sit in awe of what I've just experienced. I then completely divorce myself from the crude acts that took place for months at a time merely to return to the same story that I allowed myself to forget in order to continue functioning. And the cycle begins again. I have read that Mark Ravenhill is also in Kane's ranks if you find yourself in need for more from this genres.

Sarah Kane's collected plays represent an underestimated force in theater. Much like the work of Elfriede Jelinek or Ntozake Shange, Kane takes a private pain (losing oneself in another or testing the limits of proclaimed love) and creates a verbal landscape that the audience must inhabit, either by force of shock or noble acceptance of empathy. In either case, her plays must be reckoned with upon finishing. I think perhaps the most intriguing and powerful to me was 4.48 Psychosis, her final and posthumously performed play. There are no defined characters because who cannot claim a piece within the multitude of confessions that the play really unfolds as. Brutally honest and intentionally confrontational, this play, above the others, embodies the last possible moments of hope in anyone's life. Kane's characters rarely make the choice to latch on to these moments, but they are there and cannot be ignored.

Sarah Kane's plays are crass, bleak, bland, not lyrical and certainly not beautiful, neither philosophical nor reflective. She's a reactionary. She's visceral. She's base in the truest sense, like blood, or a seizure, not quite an orgasm. There's no ecstasy in her world. You might not respect her...and maybe you shouldn't. Maybe she doesn't want you to.But read her, anyway. If only to find fault with her attempts. Pick her apart. She's nothing if not an engaging read.In fact, she may in fact be--in the nihilist sense of the word--nothing....Read her anyway.

A wonderful collection of thought provoking works. It amazes me that there is so many in the theatre who do not know this woman's work. Powerful, powerful stuff.

In great condition, I love her writing.Sarah Kane is messed up and dark, but I love herThe book itself was not bent, no writing inside it, and even though it was used, it was in good condition

This book of Kane's plays and one screenplay is amazing. Came in good condition. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Great, twisted plays

This is one of the most prolific books by a young writer I've ever read. It's a must-read, must-gift, must-have.

George Stephanopoulos is the Patti Boyd of politics, that is Boyd inspired great songs such as George Harrison's Something and Eric Clapton's Layla (amongst others) while Stephanopoulos is said to be basis for great characters in Primary Colors and The West Wing.Stephanopoulos writes well (as I guess you would expect he is a Rhodes' Scholar, communications professional and is as sharp as a tack) and is an engaging protagonist. Some of his colourful descriptions "a sausage of a man" made me chuckle. What is also great is that he doesn't pretend that he is without fault, which gives the impression that he is being candid. He also gives a nuanced picture of people, sometimes he has contempt, other times he is complimentary.

Excellent read. This book gave such an honest and unbiased look into the workings of the White House under the Clinton administration. This is not a "gossip fest." It is a truly well written, classy book that Mr. Stephanopoulos wrote to tell of his years working closely with President Clinton. He gives credit where credit is due, but doesn't fail to tell about all of the shortcomings that President Clinton had.

Such a well written, informative, and amazing story. I couldn't put the book down it was so interesting. George was just as hard on himself than he was others - insightful is a better word. He does take responsibility! Too bad Clinton never really could until he had to! Still, Clinton accomplished so much during his years in the White House and I give thanks to George for helping me be able to see both sides of his years and accomplishments of this president.

In 1999 George Stephanopoulos decided the public would be interested in his lengthy memoir. I waited eleven years to read it, bought it used, discovered it to be well-written, funny, candid, and now timely, as we compare the Bush and Obama administrations in 2010.After the predictable story of his birth, Greek heritage, teen years, college and his increasing ambition to be "somebody"; the book comes alive with details of his one year on the campaign trail with Bill and Hillary Clinton at the tender age of thirty. He made himself so indispensable to the campaign(his opinion) by catering to the Clintons and expressing loyalty in unique ways; so his reward was a job in the White House where he spent four years at their beck and call. He became press secretary, then advisor, confidant, and friend, until......George's analysis of the Clinton years and his complete devotion to the Clintons which led to clinical depression; his fear of competition (Dick Morris and others) and fear of failure, is, in essence, what makes this self-serving memoir so readable. His energy was fueled by power and in the end, he became "the enemy". Accused of leaking stories, given the silent treatment by the Clintons, he resigns and returns to a more normal life with an unbelievable tale to tell the voting public.Presently, the author is an anchor on Good Morning America, on his way again to higher ambitions, but now more mature and patient as both a husband and father. In this memoir, he disparages himself often, details his mistakes, appears to be naive and humble at times and also resorts to self-pity. He also makes many familiar names, such as Al Gore, more well-known, maybe not as they want to be.Apparently the Clintons took his youth and loyalty for granted but kept him on with deep reservations, only to be shocked later with this telling book! It is a political education taking us back to the Clinton years and leaving the reader with impressions to think about seriously.

I really enjoyed the book, well-written, insightful. I thought your author did and excellent job of being fair while writing about a very controversial time in our history. Is deep affection and respect for Clinton came through, while he was able to be very honest and fair about his assessment of his character.

Stephanopolous has indeed smacked Clinton hard with this tell-almost-all tome, and his future credibility with employers -- if there is anything to karma -- will suffer. However, given Clinton's staggeringly consistent ability to tell lie after lie after lie, I'm happy to watch a former staffer or two who feels that their time was not well spent by ardently and repeatedly defending a dishonest man.I am a former campaign staffer and a former administration worker bee -- neither at GS' level -- but his detailing of the trials of those endeavors ring very true, are entertaining, and well crafted. He's a good writer, he's as hard on himself as he is on others (harder, perhaps), and he seems to have written something that the much-vaunted Clinton attack team (that GS once staffed) hasn't been able to knock down. Remember when Robert Reich wrote Locked In The Cabinet? The Clintonites did a great job of tearing apart several of his recollections, casting doubt on his story of a President eager to discard his values. This hasn't happened here. It probably won't. This rings true. Laced with betrayal, but true.Nicely done, George.

I was pleasantly surprised that George Stephanopoulos inserts his uncensored thoughts about his upward progress on the political ladder. He doesn't seem to hesitate to reveal his unflattering character traits which had the ironic effect of making this reader appreciate his unassuming tv personality. Highly entertaining to politicos of any party.

Today too many people who are fixated on "fixing the Presidency' don't really seem to have a clue how the organization and process works, and that sadly applies to would-be candidates. This is a superb book written with insight from inside the West Wing few can match. Stories and reflections add substantially to the simple coverage of factual mechanics of the White House and the White House press management process.
